Story
Jo Ficquet, Claire Park, Mel McDonald and Aileen Mohan are taking part in Child.org's Ride Africa challenge: cycling 500 kilometres cross-country in 5 days to raise money for life-saving work in maternal and child health.
We work as obstetrics, gynaecology, and anaesthetic doctors at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, and we are fortunate enough to have access to excellent resources to do everything we can to keep women and babies safe during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. Help us to raise money for those less fortunate. In Kenya 335 pregnant women die out of every 100,000 women compared to only 12 in the UK. A child is 12 times more likely to die in infancy in Kenya than in the Uk. You can make a difference by supporting child.org in helping to improve the care of mums and babies. Also you can laugh at us afterwards when we are unable to walk after this challenging ride, dodging elephants, lions and hyenas. We totally deserve some danger money.
All money raised goes directly to child.org.
