10th December 2024. It was a normal Tuesday. Petar & I went out for our regular evening run. We were training for a Tough Mudder to complete the following May. That run, turned out to be our last together.

On the 12th December I received a call from the police saying that he had been involved in an accident at work. The police were with me within minutes, to ensure that I was at his bedside as soon as possible. The next few days were a complete blur.

He had suffered from a Traumatic Brain Injury, spending just over 8 months in 3 different hospitals, before he died from his injuries on the 16th August. 💔 It was a horrendously difficult experience to mentally manage.

During that time, I had reached out to various charities, who could only offer support, had Petar regained consciousness. It wasn’t easy to find any support, whilst he remained in a Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness. Then, I discovered Brain Injury Is Big. Judy, who has very sadly experienced similar, with her husband suffering a TBI, checked in with me regularly & continues to do so. Being able to speak with someone who truly understands me and the deep layers of trauma that come with loving someone in this condition and then losing them, has meant more than I can express.

Whilst I’m not feeling it all, I shall be getting my running shoes back on & joining a gym so I’m semi prepared to try Tough Mudder again in May 26. Hopefully raising awareness & funds for this wonderful charity & to keep the memory of my wonderful partner alive.

Petar, I love you & will never stop. I know you’ll be with me, every step of the way.
