Story
I’m running this marathon in memory of my beautiful mum, and in memory of my close friend’s mum, Bridget.
My mum meant the world to me. Losing her was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. Grief changes you forever, but it also reminds you how precious every moment with the people you love really is. She is the reason I’ll keep putting one foot in front of the other for all 26.2 miles.
Not long after we lost my mum, we received the heartbreaking news that Bridget had been diagnosed with cancer. Throughout her illness, Severn Hospice cared for her with such compassion, dignity and respect. They provided outstanding palliative care, making sure Bridget was as comfortable as possible while supporting everyone around her through an incredibly difficult time.
Their kindness didn’t stop there. The Hospice at Home team also cared for my sons’ paternal grandmother, allowing her to receive compassionate palliative care in the comfort and familiarity of her own home. The support they gave to both families showed me just how extraordinary this charity truly is.
Severn Hospice does so much more than provide medical care. They bring comfort, preserve dignity, support families through unimaginable heartache, and help create precious moments when time is so incredibly valuable. Their staff and volunteers make an enormous difference to the lives of so many people, and they rely on the generosity of donations to continue providing this vital care free of charge.
This marathon is my way of saying thank you. I’ll be carrying the memories of my mum and Bridget with me every step of the way, while raising money so that other families can receive the same incredible compassion and support when they need it most.
If you’re able to support me, no matter how big or small, I would be truly grateful. Every donation will help Severn Hospice continue the amazing work they do for families facing the most difficult days of their lives.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
