Story

Amie’s Story

Amie was first diagnosed when she was 36 with stage 1 breast cancer, while living a normal life with her two young boys. At this point our lives stopped in utter shock, nethertheless Amie had her operation within two weeks of diagnosis and the cancer was taken away with clear margins. Radiotherapy followed, and life slowly began to turn around and be normal.

Then in December 2022 Amie was struggling to breathe, she was rushed into hospital and found that her left lung had collapsed. Along with her heart and wind pipe pushed over, this was because of 7.5 ltrs of fluid build-up. Once the fluid was drained, we were given the devastating news that her cancer had come back and it was Secondary. As it completely covered her Sternum and also in her Lungs and Liver. At this point we were just heartbroken beyond words. Amie decided she was going to fight this cancer with all her might to be here for two young boys and watch them grow up. During her second cancer battle Amie had 42 rounds of IV chemotherapy, immunotherapy, Gene Mutation target drugs, 2 collapsed lungs with 14 ltrs fluid removed, Sepis, Covid, Severe Pneumonia twice and Lymphoedema which lost the use of her left arm. Despite all that she had to go through Amie always had a brave smile and cuddle for her two boys Flynn and Noah.

In September 2024 after nearly 2 years of battle we were told that nothing more could be done as no medication was working. It was at this point Amie decided to go to LOROS hospice, and this is where our lives changed. The empathy, compassion and love given by the staff and volunteers to Amie was truly outstanding. This was the first time she relaxed in about 6 months. All people that cared for my wife at LOROS are true angels of the profession. On the 26th October 2024 Amie sadly lost her battle and died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 42.

Amie was a loving daughter to her mum Susan and a wonderful sister to Tracy.

Flynn, Noah and myself miss her every day. ‘We love you to the moon and back’

LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay.

Dave and Rich are cycling in memory of Amie Ratcliffe. Flynn and Noah are football members of Heather Football club with Flynn being a team mate of our son Zac and we wanted to do something in memory of Amie. They are cycling from Heather FC where we will be hosting a Family Fun Day where we will wave them off on their cycle ride to Nice in the South of France. We hope to raise lots of money for Loros in memory of Aime. Help us raise as much as possible.
