24hr Wild Swim Relay: Lake32 2025 · 20 September 2025 ·

The challenge is simple. Gather a team of up to 8 swimmers and swim for an hour each, for 24 hours. It really doesn’t matter what your ability is. It’s not a race, no one is being timed or tracked. You swim as much as you want, as fast as you want.

Story

I'm taking part in a 24 hour relay swim at Lake 32 as part of an 8-strong female team called The Wild Ones. We've picked swimming slots out of the hat and I’m swimmer no. 2 so will be swimming at 1pm, 9pm and 5am. I’m really looking forward to swimming and supporting the team.

My love of swimming started when my Dad used to take me to Wells Lido every Sunday morning when I was a kid. I also took diving lessons and could do a mean back dive.

I started Open Water swimming just over 2 years ago at Cromhall. It’s an amazing limestone quarry with great facilities and staff; it’s a lovely community and I’ve made some great friends through swimming. I’ve joined a number of groups including The Bluetits and Love Her Wild; both of these groups organise swims and meet ups and I’ve had so much fun. I’ve travelled to a number of locations just to swim and it’s been fantastic. Swimming doesn’t stop when it gets cold; one of my most memorable swims was with one of my swimming buddies at a lake near Bristol. The lake was frozen over so they cut out a swimming area using a jet ski. The sun was shining and we bobbed about with big shards of ice in our hands; incredible! I prefer to swim in ‘skins’ and not with a wetsuit although I have a 2mm long sleeve, no leg summer wetsuit that I bought for last winter. Your body gets used to the cold the more swims you do.

Training is going well and I’m trying to swim a decent distance each time; the most so far is 2 miles non-stop which I was chuffed with.

The 24 hour relay is going to be a test of endurance, teamwork, and sheer determination and I can’t wait.

I’m taking on this challenge to raise money for Level Water, an incredible charity that provides 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities. With your support, these kids might one day join us in this very event, swimming alongside their friends and family.

Every £15 funds a life-changing lesson. Please donate what you can and help me make a difference!
