Joanna's fundraiser for Kidneys for Life

Joanna Elliott is raising money for Kidneys for Life

London to Paris 2026 · 22 July 2026 to 26 July 2026 ·

More people than ever suffer from chronic kidney disease & the numbers are increasing. Treatments exist - eg. dialysis & transplant - but still no cure. This needs to change! We raise funds for kidney research, fund training courses for renal staff & provide amenities for North West kidney patients.

Story

More people than ever are battling chronic kidney disease & the numbers keep rising. While the risk increases with age, no one is immune—kidney failure can strike at any stage of life, often leading to dialysis or the need for a transplant.

The reality is heart-breaking. While treatments like dialysis and transplants offer hope, there is still no cure. This must change.

We raise vital funds for ground-breaking research, empower renal professionals with expert training, and provide essential support to kidney patients across the North West.

What am I doing: I am cycling (fully self funded) from London to Paris; 350miles. I am thoroughly looking forward to the challenge (not sure about the hills!), stepping outside my very happy comfort zone, meeting lots of new people and have a whole load of new experiences on my own. If any issues, I'll be fine as joining Kidney for Life team.

Why am I doing it: I am raising funds to support Kidneys for Life who support current and future kidney patients including new research. My daughter, Natalie, suffered from an undiagnosed rare kidney disease, Nephronophthisis which is was discovered by being hit by a hammock in USA. She had a a very successful kidney transplant 11 years ago from her dad. The new kidney has allowed Natalie to thrive and live life. But currently, a new kidney does not last for ever and I'm up next - so lets get funding more research to ensure that a new kidney is for life.
