Joanna's fundraiser for Bowel Cancer UK

New York City Marathon 2024 · 3 November 2024 ·
My fundraising target is limitless! I'd simply like to raise as much as possible for this charity - to honour Luke's legacy & for everyone battling this devastating disease.
On 3rd November I am running the New York Marathon in memory of my friend & the life force who was Luke Howliston – an inspiration of a man, who was always smiling, always positive & who lived his too short life to the absolute max. Luke battled his fight with bowel cancer to the end with immense strength, power & dignity whilst continuing to rinse every ounce of living out of his life.
Luke was young, fit, active & a picture of health yet still this cruel disease tragically took him from this world in March last year. He was 43.
Bowel cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the UK. The number of people in the UK diagnosed with bowel cancer is projected to increase 10% by 2040, from 42,800 to 47,700 each year. This also means an average of approximately 2,500 more deaths every year from bowel cancer.
Research also revealed a predicted rise in UK bowel cancer deaths in 25–49-year-olds, compared with other European countries, with deaths from bowel cancer rising 26% in men & almost 39% in women in 2024 compared to 2018.
Such statistics highlight the constant need for life-saving cancer research & increasing awareness about the signs & symptoms of the disease.
Any & all donations to my fundraising for this cause are hugely appreciated & will help push me round the 26.2 miles from Staten Island through the five boroughs of New York City to the finish line in Central Park.
