I’m running the Hackney Half Marathon this year for War Child. This feels like a small way to turn awareness into action.

We’re incredibly lucky to have safe homes, access to education, the freedom to make choices about our lives — things that are so normal they become invisible. And at the same time, there are children growing up surrounded by conflict, loss, and uncertainty. It’s hard to reconcile that contrast without feeling a bit helpless… or even a bit guilty.

War Child is striving for a world in which no child's life is torn apart by war. They protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children living in war zones.

By making a donation, you will be making a difference to thousands of children whose lives have been turned upside-down by conflict. You’ll help War Child provide the emergency care and support they need to overcome the emotional and physical toll of conflict, as well as access to services to catch up on lost education that will help to transform their futures for the better.

War Child delivers programmes and activities for conflict-affected children in 12 countries: Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Colombia, DR Congo, Jordan, Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territory/Palestine, South Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Ukraine and Yemen. They previously worked in Iraq, and currently provide remote technical support to Burundi.

After three ankle rolls in training, it’s safe to say this won’t be my smoothest run lol - but let’s see what I can do.
