Story
“I made a deal with the universe… and it actually delivered. Now it’s my turn.”
Life tested me a few years back. My daughter went through a school experience no child should—bullying, pressure, and more survival than learning. We moved, we fought, we got through it… but not without scars. Anxiety, sleepless nights, and a lot of “are we going to be okay?” moments.
If I could change one thing, it would be this: make schools truly safe for every child. Because safety isn’t a luxury—it’s the foundation. Even in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, safety comes before learning. If that isn’t there, how can any child truly thrive?
Then my son came along—and I made myself a promise: that he wouldn’t have to go through the same.
Same catchment. Same worries. One chance.
So I applied to a better school… and (slightly desperately) made a deal with the universe:
“If he gets in, I’ll give something back.”
To be honest, I expected stress, appeals, maybe even interpretive dance to convince them…
But no. One email. He got in.
I cried. A lot. Happy tears this time.
So here I am—keeping my promise. I’ve signed up for a fundraising challenge for Lister Hospital, supporting a department that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, but quietly changes lives every day.
And this one is also for my beloved uncle, who I lost this summer after his battle with cancer. He was one of the kindest, biggest-hearted people I knew—and he meant the world to me. 💛
So… universe, deal honoured.
Butt now I actually have to do the challenge… and considering my day job mostly involves sitting on it as a beautician, this might come as a bit of a shock to the system 😅
If you can donate, thank you. If not, a share means just as much.
