Running for Jeff: My Final World Major in Tokyo
Dementia is a cruel thief. It took my Uncle Jeff from us far too quickly, and he passed away on April 12, 2025. Jeff was fit and active his entire life—a lifelong badminton player who only slowed down when the illness took hold. While he might not have understood the logistics of my marathon obsession, he never wavered in his support. He was always so immensely proud of my running.
Why Age UK?
During the hardest days, Age UK were a lifeline for my mum and Jeff. They provided more than just practical advice; they offered the kind of genuine kindness that makes a world of difference when a family is navigating the complexities of dementia. I want to ensure other families have that same support when they need it most.
The Road to Tokyo (and the "Six Star" Finish)
Just ten days after Jeff passed, I received the news that I had secured a place in the Tokyo Marathon. This isn't just another race; it is the final piece of the puzzle.
My journey started back in October 2017 when I landed a spot in the 2018 London Marathon. At the time, I thought it would be "one and done." Sunday 1st of March, I line up for my 11th marathon, and the final step in my World Marathon Majors journey.
My Progress So Far:
• ✅ London
• ✅ New York City
• ✅ Berlin
• ✅ Chicago
• ✅ Boston
• ⭕ Tokyo (The Final Star!)
Those of you who have followed my journey know how hard I’ve worked for this. It has been years of early mornings, long miles, and physical grit. Getting this far is one of my proudest achievements, but crossing the finish line in Tokyo will be bittersweet without Jeff here to see it.
How You Can Help
If you have anything at all to spare—even the cost of a coffee—it would mean the world to me and to the families Age UK supports. Every penny goes toward ensuring no one has to face the cruelty of dementia or the challenges of old age alone.
Thank you for being part of my journey. This one is for you, Uncle Jeff.
