Story
Thanks for visiting my Just Giving page.
Here’s my story…. My life has been shaped by poor maternal mental health. My mum suffered from severe post partum psychosis when I was born, which later developed into Bipolar.
She has suffered with this awful disease for 36 years and her life, along with mine, my Dad’s and my sister’s lives, have been coloured by many struggles and traumatic events stemming from this illness. My mum is now living in a care home at 66 due to progression of the disease and physical injuries sustained as a result.
My dad tragically lost his life way before his time in 2016 due to alcoholism which developed after 25 years of coping with these struggles.
I myself have also suffered with anxiety and PTSD associated with these events, and the challenges I faced as a new Mum in the COVID-19 lockdowns, and continue to do battle with the beast that is maternal anxiety every day.
No mother, daughter or family should have to go through what my family has been through. Sadly the NHS is simply not equipped to support the many mothers who need it, which is why the work of the fantastic Maternal Mental Health Alliance is so important.
Please support me, and them, as I embark on training for and competing in a 10k running race at Dorney Lake, Windsor on 1st February 2025.
For all the mothers reading this who may have struggled with their mental health - you are amazing and I stand with you, run for you and will think of you during the race.
A heartfelt thank you on behalf of my whole family.
