100km solo trek across the Lake District in 6-7 days · 10 July 2023

Bringing health and hope in the hardest times. When poor people get sick, daily life gets tougher still. MAI, and our supporters, are here to change that. Our partnerships with exceptional Christian healthcare providers in some of the world’s poorest communities is saving lives and reducing suffering for thousands of people living in poverty every year. And by providing low-cost affordable healthcare to the poorest our partners prevent many families from falling into absolute destitution and debt. We are bringing health and hope in the hardest times to people in Chad, India, South Africa and South Sudan. Supporters like you make this possible. Thank you.

Story

Sponsor Joanna on her 100km solo 7 day trek across the Lake District in July 2023 to help her raise £1000 for Medic Assist International (MAI)

I am raising funds for Medic Assist International (MAI), who support trusted local health partners to provide quality and affordable healthcare to poor and vulnerable communities (irrespective of their beliefs), in marginalised and unstable places of the world. MAI currently supports:

Martha Clinic - a Primary Health Centre in South Sudan - blighted by >20yrs of conflict and war.

Guinebor 2 Hospital (G2H) in Chad - focuses on Mother and Child Health as 1 in 10 Chadian children die before their 5th birthday and 1 in 15 Chadian women die in child birth. View G2H's 1min video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10-5tla0dHU

Embo Clinic in South Africa - supports patients with HIV and chronic conditions in Embo - a poor community in South Africa, where 27% of population between 15-49yrs are HIV+. View Embo's 2min video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YhFUYw7xMc

Chinchpada Christian Hospital (CCH) in India - located in the Nandurbar District, bordering Gujarat & Madhya Pradesh States, where 72% of families live below the poverty line of <£1.50/ day, mostly in tented or basic wooden shelters. MAI help fund a Palliative Care programme and are currently helping CCH to raise funds to build a modern and larger Intensive Care Unit, fit for purpose to meet the increasing critical care need - see CCH's 2-3 min ICU video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywRUakPeHLo

Read Ranjana’s story who was heavily pregnant with a dangerously high blood pressure and desperately needed an emergency caesarean, but was turned away from her local hospital as unable to afford their fee. A friend took her to CCH, who undertook emergency surgery at a price she could afford and saved both Ranjana and her baby’s life and they are now both doing brilliantly!

As trekking solo 100km in 6-7 days across the Lake District from St Bees (West Coast) to Shap (M6 -East) will be a great challenge for me both physically and navigationally! I am no longer a ‘Spring Chicken’ as many of you know, so I would value your financial support and prayers! I am also personally sacrificing my annual holiday to financially do this, so all sponsorship money will go to MAI.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity and for helping to ‘Bring Health & Hope’ to those at their time of greatest need, in their darkest hours. If I can master the technology, I may release a daily Blog and 1min daily video of my ‘Challenge 20’ trek, so you can share my journey and hopefully be inspired to organise your own ‘Challenge 20’ Sponsored or Fundraising Event in 2023, to raise vital funds for MAI.

Gift Aid:

If you are a UK Tax payer and would like to add an extra 25% or more to your gift then please email Joanna for a Gift Aid Form on email: Joanna@medicassistinternational.org

Organise your own 'Challenge 20' Event for MAI:

To celebrate MAI’s 20 Year Anniversary of saving and improving lives of the poorest and most marginalised people in communities around the world, MAI are aiming to raise £100k through everyone's 'Challenge 20' Sponsored and Fundraising Events over the next year. So, if you wish to challenge yourself or have some fun with others by organising your own 'Challenge 20' Sponsored or Fundraising Event - to register and receive your ‘Challenge 20’ Fundraising Pack, visit MAI's 'Challenge 20' web page on: https://www.medicassistinternational.org/get-involved/fundraise/
