Joanna's fundraiser for ME Research UK

Joanna Withers is raising money for ME Research UK

Team: Team Walk for ME 2026

A walk from Wookey to The Bishops Palace in Wells and back again. · 2 May 2026

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

My Husband has CFS/ME and to be honest, seeing that there is actually a group trying to raise money for research is AMAZING! We can feel so isolated at times. I want to try and raise more awareness for this crippling condition! It shows me that we are not alone, and something is being done to learn more.

In two years my husband has gone from working full time as a Postman and spending hours in our garden growing vegetables, to being unable to work at all. Lying in bed and occasionally managing to come down stairs for an hour.

Let me know if you'd like to join me and Gertie on our walk and please donate if you can.

Only biomedical research can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure. That’s why research is our focus.

We've awarded 64 full grants and 5 PhD-level awards since 2000 and invested over £3.5million. But research is expensive and becoming more so every day. That’s the challenge we face, and that’s why we need your help.
