As many of you know myself, George and Shaun (George’s dad) ran the Mansfield 10K in 2018, we always said that after, that we would run the London Marathon together.

This became a dream of ours, to run the marathon together as George loved the doing the 10K. Sadly we lost George in 2020, which broke us. This year, we are honoured to run the marathon in George’s memory, we know he will be with us cheering us on the whole way and we can live out our dream together.

George endured a lot in his short life but always persevered, always happy and seeing the good in life. George taught me and so many others so much about life and that everyone deserves happiness. He is the most inspiring person I’ve have ever met, lived his life with such resilience, nothing could beat his spirit, he was so full of love and happiness and for that I’m so grateful to have spent all those years with him. He made me the person I am today.

I know George would want us to help others who are in need of support, so I will be running the 2025 marathon to raise money for WellChild.

WellChild Childrens Nurses provide essential care and practical support to children and young people requiring long-term or complex care. They play a crucial role in enabling children to leave hospital and be cared for at home, reducing the practical, emotional and financial impact for families.

WellChild is also committed to funding high quality, innovative projects designed to have a positive impact for seriously ill children both now and in the future. This includes WellChilds Helping Hands programme which continues to go from strength to strength, working with volunteers from companies and organisations across the country to tackle essential projects in the homes of children with serious illness. Those volunteers provide the manpower and enthusiasm for projects such as bedroom and garden makeovers.
