Story
Balloons is a small charity that works alongside families and professionals to support bereaved children and young people in our area when someone significant in their life has died. We also support children who are living with family members during end-of-life care.
Every time we pick up the telephone to take a new referral, meet a bereaved child for the first time, or visit a grieving family, we know it matters — and we know it makes a difference.
Martha has been supported by Balloons for a number of years following the sudden loss of her grandparents, which left her struggling with her grief. Balloons supported Martha through sessions at school and continued to support her for many years afterwards by inviting her to activities, helping her feel understood, supported, and less alone.
James was supported by Balloons when he was told that his brother’s condition was life-limiting. He struggled to understand what this meant and how he felt about it. Through school, Balloons were contacted and they offered James sessions in school to help him explore his understanding and emotions. This support gave James a safe place to talk and communicate his feelings. He has also been offered continued support when end-of-life care begins.
Both Martha and James want to do something special to thank Balloons and to help make sure this wonderful service continues — not only for James, but for other children and families who need support during the most difficult times.
Martha, James and a bunch of their friends and parents, will be walking 20km from Exmouth to Starcross ferry on April 26th. They would love it if you joined them on the walk and gathered a few sponsors. If thats not possible, then a sponsor would make their day.
Thank you for helping us to do what we do. We can assure you that every penny you donate will be used to help bereaved children and families feel supported, heard, and cared for.
