Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Moorfields Eye Hospital saved my sight, and fundraising for them is the very least I can do to thank them.
During pregnancy, I experienced swelling and leakage in my eye, which damaged my photoreceptors and caused me to lose my central vision. Every blink was a reminder that I was struggling to read and focus. Through this experience, I realised just how much I rely on people’s facial expressions and lip reading in my communication, and of course, to be able to work.
I explored private treatment options to try to fix my vision and regain control. The cost was enormous, more than I could afford, and it wasn’t covered by insurance, even with some of the best medical professionals in the industry fighting my case. As the back and forth continued, my vision deteriorated further. That was when Moorfields stepped in and treated me immediately.
Since then, I have undergone monthly treatments to stabilise and improve my sight, and I am incredibly grateful to say the procedures are beginning to work. The treatments are still ongoing and each one is a reminder of just how precious sight is. Everything in my life revolves around it — watching my son grow and thrive, managing everyday activities, and the possibility of a career.
The NHS often receives bad press, and that is no surprise for a system under immense pressure, stretched by over-demand and under-supply. But in my case, Moorfields worked wonders. As a thank you, I am fundraising for Moorfields Eye Hospital by running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October.
Thank you, Moorfields, for giving me back something so precious. And thank you to anyone who is able to support this incredible hospital with a donation.
