On 10th May, I’ll be taking on the Bristol Half Marathon to raise money for Sam’s Superheroes Foundation — a charity that means so much to me and my family.

Sam’s Superheroes Foundation is dedicated to improving outcomes for people affected by the rare epilepsies NORSE (New Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus) and FIRES (Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome).

These are devastating and life-changing conditions that can strike suddenly, often without warning, and can have life-altering consequences for individuals and their families. Because they are so rare, there is still so much which isn’t fully understood, which is why research and awareness are absolutely vital.

Sam’s Superheroes works to:

• Fund and support crucial research into NORSE and FIRES

• Raise awareness of these rare epilepsies

• Provide support to families navigating unimaginable challenges

Last year, my own family experienced firsthand just how overwhelming and frightening this journey can be. When something so rare and severe affects someone you love, you quickly realise how important specialist research, information and family support really are.
