Michael (my dad) was diagnosed with throat cancer, he went through weeks of radiation and hospital visits and finally got to ring the bell! It was great news he had beat cancer just like previously beating bladder cancer!

However December 2025 he had the devastating news that the throat cancer had returned bigger than ever! He was admitted to hospital extremely poorly and basically given 2 chooses, palliative care or a huge life saving operation (Laryngectomy tracheostomy) which at the time he wasn't well enough for. He fought bravely and choose the operation, after a few weeks the Laryngectomy went ahead and he spent what seemed like forever on the intensive care/critical care unit, he then spent the next 4 months constantly fighting for his life with several set backs such as sepsis, pneumonia and many more nasty infections.

We have spent days/nights by his bedside as a family completely preparing for the worse over and over again but he has somehow managed to keep going every time! He has fought each and everyway possible to stay alive, he just wanted to get back home, and for a long time just couldn't see that ever happening, however he has now made it home and is navigating a new way of life with his stoma!

Whist he still has a long way to go yet, at the fantastic age of 71 years old and after only being home just over a month he has decided to take part in the 5k move against cancer walk. So myself, and my 8yr old daughter (Jodie and Olivia) are completing it with him!

Although i think he's absolutely bonkers for even contemplating it so soon after i have to admire his fight and determination so come rain or shine, blood, sweat and no doubt tears on Saturday 28th June we will be completing the 5k walk to help raise funds for a fantastic charity!
