Story

I’m doing the Great North Run for the 4th time in 10 days time and I’ve had a few people asking me if I’m raising money for charity this year. I’ve been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity in the past so I do not want to take advantage of people’s kindness but if anyone would like to donate both myself and the British Polio Fellowship would be very grateful.

In June this year my Mam and I attended the British Polio Fellowship Annual General Meeting and we met Kripen Dhrona, the C.E.O of the charity. This was the first British Polio Fellowship event my Mam had been to in nearly 60 years. In the late 1950’s she used to go the house in Jesmond that the charity had bought to provide activities, work and accommodation for people with polio and in the early 1960’s my Mam took part in the British Polio Fellowship swimming galas.

At this year’s A.G.M we met some lovely people who also used to visit the house and saw some old cinefilms made there and we were told the Newcastle branch of the British Polio Fellowship were in the process of organising more events where local members can meet and socialise and where they can get information and support so any money I raise to help would be very welcome. Thank you.
