On Saturday 7th November I will be celebrating my 1 year Heart transplant Birthday, by taking part in a 24-hour cycle. I will be doing 12 consecutive hours of the 24, to raise money for the Owen McVeigh Foundation. This is going to be a huge physical challenge for me , but it’s one I’m incredibly proud to take on for the foundation.

The Owen Mcveigh foundation does amazing work supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer, creating special experiences, memories and opportunities that they might otherwise never get the chance to have during such difficult times.

Having experienced first-hand how precious life is, I know just how important it is to make every moment count. At 33, I underwent a heart transplant, followed by a 3.5-week coma, sepsis, multiple organ failure and then eventual amputation of both my legs below the knee. My journey has been one of survival, resilience and learning to live again. Now, with the help of my prosthetic legs and a determination to keep pushing my limits, I want to use my own challenges to make a difference to others. Cycling for 12 of the 24 hours will be particularly demanding, both physically and mentally, especially being a double below knee amputee only since January 2026 but knowing that every pedal stroke is helping to bring a little happiness, hope and unforgettable experiences to children and families facing childhood cancer will be what keeps me going. If I can turn some of the challenges I’ve faced into something positive for others, then every second of this challenge will be worth it. ❤
