A challenge a month!

Inflammatory Neuropathies UK is dedicated to helping people affected by GBS, CIDP, MMN, and over 40 other Inflammatory Neuropathies. We provide information & support (personal grants, counselling, peer support), advocate & raise awareness, and help to fund & facilitate research.

Story

In 2020, we sadly lost my Grandad, Colin Prior, to Guillain-Barré syndrome. My Grandad was incredibly generous, not only by spending time with his family, but also by supporting various charities and volunteering in his spare time.

To celebrate his life, I will be taking on 12 challenges in 2023 - that's a challenge each month.

All donations made in Colin's memory will go directly to GAIN - the only organisation dedicated to helping people affected by Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), CIDP and the associated inflammatory neuropathies throughout the UK and Ireland.

Here's what I've signed myself up for...

✅ January - 100km of Running

✅ February - 400km of Cycling

✅ March - Cambridge Half Marathon | 21km

✅ April - Isle of Wight Ultra Marathon | 106km

✅ May - London Bridge to Brighton Pier Bike Ride | 104km (GBS & CIDP Awareness Month)

✅ June - Dorney Lake Sprint Triathlon | 750m Swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run

✅ July - National 3 Peaks Challenge | Snowdon (1085m), Scafell Pike (978m) & Ben Nevis (1345m) in under 24 hours

✅ August - Olympic Triathlon | 1.5km Swim, 40km Bike, 10km Run

✅ September - 50km of Swimming

✅ October - Get a tattoo (including a lion for Colin)

✅ November - Everest Base Camp | 11 days, 5364m altitude, 130km

⌛ December - The 12 days of Christmas Ice Bath Challenge | An ice bath a day for 12 days, staying in a minute longer each day!

For some, these challenges may not seem much, and to others they’ll seem crazy. Any donation you can make, big or small, is hugely appreciated.

Thank you and wish me luck!

______________

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune condition affecting the peripheral nervous system, usually leading to temporary or long-term paralysis.

Around 80% of those with GBS will make a good recovery, but between 5-10% of people will not survive and the other 10-15% may be left with severe mobility or dexterity issues.

GAIN helps people understand and manage both acute and chronic variants of the syndrome, raises awareness, and promotes clinical and non-clinical research into these conditions.
