We're taking part in Superhero Walk 2026 to raise vital donations for our region's heart unit and the patients and families who rely on it!

Our story...

Alex our son got diagnosed with a rare heart condition called an AP window. The only treatment for this was urgent open heart surgery. Alex was 3 weeks old when they gave us the news. He was instantly hospitalised as this condition cause your lungs to fill with fluid. Now nearly 7 weeks old he has had his surgery and is recovering well.

We had to go to Leeds specialist children’s cardiac unit where me, Ben and the twins are still. Without the support of charities like this, Ben wouldn’t have been able to get accommodation to stay and support me but more importantly be with his sons. They support with both the mental and financial strain this kind of diagnosis can have on parents and extended family. We have had a rollercoaster and are very grateful for all the medical professionals we have seen they have truly been amazing! We are blessed!

We are asking for people to support us and the children’s surgical charity in helping them continue the wonderful work they do supporting children and families through. Me and Ben are very lucky that hopefully after this surgery Alex won’t need to go back for anymore. Other children need numerous surgeries.
