Story

Support My Journey to Teach and Inspire in Johannesburg, South Africa!🇿🇦

I have been selected to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa this summer as a Warwick in Africa volunteer, where I will be teaching Maths and Robotics to students in under-resourced schools. I am beyond excited to take part in this life-changing programme that not only improves education for young people but also provides sustainable support for teachers across Africa.

However, to make this happen, I need to raise vital funds, and I would truly appreciate your support! 😊

What is Warwick in Africa?

Warwick in Africa (WiA) is a long-standing educational programme designed to improve access to quality education in some of the poorest schools in Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania. Since 2006, WiA has:

🔹Benefited over 130,000 students

🔹Trained 5,000+ teachers to improve long-term education outcomes

🔹Placed students on transformative career trajectories through supercurricular initiatives

This is not just a short-term volunteering programme, but a part of a wider initiative that helps students gain the skills they need to break cycles and build a brighter future.

Why I’m Doing This

Education has shaped my life in ways I cannot even begin to describe. I’ve been fortunate to have teachers and mentors who have inspired and empowered me, and I want to pay that forward by helping students who may not have access to the same opportunities. Having worked in education, technology, and STEM outreach, I know first-hand how one teacher can completely transform a student’s future.

Beyond teaching in the classroom, I want to create lasting change by launching robotics clubs for secondary school students. Using my engineering background, I will introduce students to hands-on STEM learning, helping them to develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and technical knowledge that could open doors to future careers in science, technology, and engineering. Many students have never had access to this kind of learning, and I am determined to make this a sustainable and scalable initiative that continues long after my placement ends.

Additionally, as a former regional rugby player, I will be running rugby sessions after school for students, giving them the opportunity to build teamwork, discipline, and confidence through sport.

Where Your Donation Goes

Your support will help provide:

🔹 Essential teaching materials for students and teachers

🔹 Training programmes for African teachers, ensuring sustainable change

🔹 Resources to set up the robotics club and other long-term initiatives

Every contribution makes a real difference, even a £10 donation can really help provide students with opportunities that could shape their futures. If you can, please consider donating—your support will help equip students with the skills, confidence, and resources they need to thrive.

Thank you so much for being part of this journey with me! 💙
