Story
I was really pleased to get a place in the ballot for this year’s London marathon, as it provides me with an opportunity to raise awareness of the devastating effects of gambling disorder and in particular the work of Gambling With Lives.
Unfortunately “When the fun stops, stop” is too late for many. Gambling With Lives was set up by the family and friends of people who had taken their own lives as a direct result of gambling. These deaths appear to be out of the blue, with no warning but are the result of the cumulative effect of what gambling can do to so many people’s heads and hearts.
I’m very thankful to have seen first hand the resource that Gambling With Lives puts into campaigning to reform the UK’s outdated gambling laws: laws that offer little protection to so many targeted, vulnerable people. Gambling With Lives also works to prevent further tragedies through education and prevention programs as well as supporting bereaved families.
If you’re able to donate then the money would be going to a cause which is very close to my heart. However, equally importantly, please remember the details of the charity so that they can help more problem gamblers and families that are bereaved as a result of gambling-related suicide.
Thanks,
Joe
