Story

100 miles. One run. Under 32 hours.

Many of you will know that I enjoy a running challenge… but in May I’m taking on something pretty huge.

On 16–17 May 2026, I will be running the Five Rivers 100 Mile Ultra Marathon — a continuous point-to-point race along the beautiful Suffolk and Essex coastline. That’s 100 miles, non-stop, in under 32 hours!

The route passes through the stunning landscapes of Dedham Vale and the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, linking long-distance coastal paths and crossing five estuaries along the way — the Stour, Orwell, Deben, Butley and Ore/Alde. It will be an incredible physical and mental challenge, including running through the night to reach the finish within the 32-hour cut-off.

Of course I love a challenge, but I thought what a great opportunity to raise money for two fantastic local organisations that have meant a lot to our family and have played a big role in our sons’ lives.

A little about each club and why they are important to our family...

Kingfisher Amateur Boxing Club (Gorleston)

Founded in 1964, Kingfisher Boxing Club has been supporting young people in the local community for over 60 years. The club is entirely non-profit and volunteer-run, with dedicated coaches and committee members giving their time to help children build discipline, confidence, resilience and fitness through boxing. Not just for children and young people, the club also offers sessions for Veterans and also women only sessions.

The gym is held in trust for the children of Great Yarmouth, ensuring future generations have a safe, supportive place to train and grow.

Again both our boys have enjoyed being members of this great club and have benefited from not just the facilities but also all of time and knowledge shared by the volunteers there. Tobey is still a very keen and active member with Kingfisher.

Waveney Harriers Branch of the Pony Club

The Pony Club is a unique youth organisation for members aged 4–25, helping young people develop riding skills, horsemanship, teamwork and independence. Members take part in rallies, training, competitions, tests and camps across nine different equestrian sports, while learning about horse welfare, rider safety and responsibility.

The Pony Club has helped countless young riders build confidence and lifelong friendships, with some former members going on to become professional riders, team competitors and medal winners — all starting in this supportive grassroots environment.

The Waveney Harriers Branch has been “home” for both our boys over the years, and Dylan is still an active member along with 70-80 other children at any one time.

Both of these organisations rely heavily on fundraising, volunteers and community support to keep providing opportunities for children and young people.

If you’re able to support, any donation – big or small – would mean so much and will help ensure these clubs can continue their amazing work for many years to come.

Thank you so much for supporting me on my 100-mile adventure https://fiveriversultra.org.uk/
