Story
In April 2027, I'll be taking on the London Marathon to raise money for Bede House Association.
As a member of the Bede team, I've seen first-hand the difference this charity makes. Every day, Bede works alongside people with learning disabilities, survivors of domestic abuse, and the wider Southwark community, helping people build confidence, independence and stronger futures. Bede has been at the heart of Southwark since 1938, and I'm proud to play a small part in that work.
We are in regular contact with around 116 individual clients with learning disabilities in a year. On Southwark Council estimates, this is around 9% of the total eligible population. Around one-third of these participants receive no local authority funding to come to Bede. We are often the only named partner on a person’s support.
Running a marathon will be one of the biggest physical challenges I've ever taken on, but it feels worthwhile when it's for a cause I know so well. Every mile I run is for the people who rely on Bede's services and the dedicated staff and volunteers who support them every day.
The money raised gives people with learning disabilities opportunities to enjoy special experiences and create lasting memories such as a summer trip to Brighton. This involves paying for coaches and accessible transport (and some ice cream) to take 80 people. It will also allow Bede to continue providing activities like volunteering in the community, sports, art projects amongst many others.
If you're able to support me, no matter how much, I'd be incredibly grateful. Every donation will go directly to Bede House and help the charity continue its vital work in our community.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page, and thank you for supporting both me and Bede House.
