465miles run in November 2023

Serving the population of the boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, Meadow House cares for people who have a life limiting or terminal condition. We support their families and carers too and aim to show compassion, care, respect and dignity at all times.

Story

Hello, three years ago one of my best friends died. I met Paul Woodgate at university in 1994 and he was someone I shared some of the best moments of my life, sharing flats we rented for a few years in Acton, watching Goran Ivanišević beat Pat Rafter at the Wimbledon finals at centre court in 2001, being inspired to run marathons and chatting about our shared loves of politics, football and lots more.

Sadly in November 2020, Paul died from cancer, aged 45. From 1st November to 30th November I’m going to be running the number of miles for each calendar day to raise money for Meadow House Hospice in Ealing where Paul spent the last month of his life and received brilliant care.

I attempted doing this in June 2021 but a fair few miles in the last week were walking – this time I’m running every one of the miles. That means running 465 miles overall in November. I did 15 miles last week, and will be doing 63 miles this week and 112 miles the week after and then a few more from 20th November, hopefully snow-free..

Many of us will benefit from the amazing support that hospice staff provide, I would be very very grateful for any support you are able to give to my challenge in memory of my mate and in support of Meadow House Hospice.

Thank you, Joe x

P.S. I’ll be posting daily updates on Twitter and Instagram from 6th to 30th November #465forPaul
