Story
This is a bit of a landmark for me, my 20th consecutive London Marathon which I am incredibly proud of, with that in mind I am setting an ambitious fundraising goal of £10,000, if I am able to achieve this then this will take me over the £100,000 mark raised for charity since my first London Marathon in 2007...
As always, I have to start by thanking you for taking the time out to read another one of my JustGiving pages, the continued support is greatly appreciated and never goes unnoticed, especially after 20 years of doing this!
I am fortunate enough to have secured a place in this year's London Marathon through a good performance in last year's event, securing a ‘good for age’ place means that I don’t have to raise money for charity.
Despite not having to fundraise, I have come across this charity which aims to raise funds for end-of-life care in local hospitals such as Southend, Basildon and Broomfields. My family, both past and at present have seen the difficulties cancer brings to both those affected and their loved ones so to be able to support something local like this gives me added motivation moving into my 20th London Marathon.
This is a charity and a cause I have not worked with before and this gives me a great level of determination working alongside a new charity who I/we have not helped before.
For those of you who don't know, I started running back in 2007 when I took part in my first-ever London Marathon in memory of my late Grampy and on behalf of Parkinson's UK, having seen firsthand the effects Parkinson's had on my Grampy. Since 2007 I have run in 50+ Marathons competing in New York, Chicago, Boston, Berlin, Athens, Italy, and Paris to name but a few events.
Running has provided me with so many special moments and memories but 2013 was a standout year for me managing what was a personal best in Paris of 2 hours 45 minutes, this was followed by my first of two Guinness World Records in the London Marathon and further complimented by a 5th place finish in the Halstead Marathon and a first place finish in the Dart Vale Marathon. 2024 saw me run a new personal best on home soil in the London Marathon of 2 hours 42 minutes and 44 seconds.
Running has also enabled me to raise vital funds for worthy causes and since 2007 I have raised in excess of £90,000 which is spread across a number of charities including Parkinson's UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Age UK, Help For Heros, Diabetes UK, HLH and CLIC Sargent. If we are able to achieve our ambitious fundraising goal set this year then this would take that figure past the £100,000 mark.
My running and fundraising achievements are something I am incredibly proud of and something I strive to continue until my knees tell me to stop.
Surrounded by such a strong circle of family and friends as well as the most patient and supportive wife, wonderful son and daughter I approach this years London Marathon with an air of confidence and excitement at seeing my wife and children at the finish line again.
Any funds that you can spare will be greatly appreciated as always.
None of my fundraising would be possible without the continued support from the good people who take the time out to read my pages and donate so generously so I have to say another heartfelt thank you as it really does mean a lot to me that after 20 years of fundraising I still have the support of so many.
Impossible Is Nothing
