Joe's fundraiser for ST THOMAS THE APOSTLE PCC, HANWELL

Joe Gilbert is raising money for ST THOMAS THE APOSTLE PCC, HANWELL

NorthCape 4000 · 31 July 2025

Our church hall has served the community of Hanwell for decades. It is a much valued resource but it badly needs renovatin g. We aim to create a hall that is more attractive, multi-functional and eco-friendly.

Story

This summer, I'll be doing the NorthCape4000, an organised unsupported ultra-distance bike adventure across Northern Europe. I'll be beginning on 31 July in Berlin and cycling over 3000km to Europe's most northerly point NorthCape (around 500km north of the Arctic Circle). I plan to cycle over 200km per day for 2-3 weeks and to camp/stay in hotels along the way. Please follow me on Strava if you would like to stay updated :)

I am raising money for two charities: The St Thomas' Church Hall restoration project and Imperial Health Charity.

These have separate fundraising pages, and I have included a description of both below.

St Thomas's Church Hall Restoration Fund:

This church hall has served the community for decades. It's been a part of my life through attending scouts, performing in multiple pantomimes, quizzes, and other community events. It is a much-valued resource, but it badly needs renovating. The roof is leaking, and the interior decoration is drab and uninviting.

The plans involve creating a more accessible and attractive entrance; rooms that will be used for counselling, and a cafe. They aim to provide much-needed storage for our regular hall users.

It's been a huge part of my life and I would like to give back to this community project.

Imperial Health Charity (my donation link)

This is the healthcare charity linked to my place of work at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust (who have generously let me have extended time off for this). Imperial Health Charity helps the hospitals do more through grants, arts and volunteering. I've particularly benefited through my roles in the staff physiotherapy pathway, use of the trust's counseling services and the support that the volunteers have given to work experience students.

The charity has had a big impact on the working lives of staff and also continue to do amazing work improving the care and support that patients receive at the trust and the surrounding community.
