Story
Hi!
I'm excited to be running with New Horizon Team in the Hackney Half Marathon 2025 to raise money for an incredible cause, supporting young people experiencing homelessness.
As a housing caseworker, I support young people and families in securing safe housing while fleeing from serious youth violence. I’ve had the privilege of working at New Horizon for nearly two years, and before that, I worked in the housing advice team. Every day, I meet young people in urgent need of safe accommodation, support with employment and skills, and a sense of community. Often, they have no family to turn to for help, making the work we do even more critical.
Last year, over 136,000 young people reached out to their local councils for help due to homelessness or the threat of it. New Horizon is the only service in London dedicated specifically to supporting youth who are sleeping rough or at risk. They provide crucial services as the only youth-focused day centre and rough sleeping outreach in the city.
By running in the Hackney Half Marathon, I’m raising funds to ensure that New Horizon Youth Centre can continue to offer its vital services, giving young people the chance to escape homelessness and build brighter futures. Any donation, big or small, will make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people across London.
£27 could give a young person a night's respite off the streets.
£16 could give a young person facing homelessness access to expert housing advice.
£8 could cover the travel cost for a young person heading to their first interview.
£5 could cover the cost for a young person to have a hot nutritious meal at the day centre.
£60 could cover the cost of a 1:1 a therapy session.
£19 could provide a budgeting workshop.
Thank you for supporting me in this challenge and helping make a positive impact!
