Story

Hi everyone, and thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page.

In November 2025, I sadly lost my Dad to small cell lung cancer. He fought bravely until the very end and faced the disease head-on. Not a day or moment goes by when he is not in our thoughts.

During my Dad’s battle, both he and our family were supported by two truly incredible charities: the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and St Catherine’s Hospice. Wherever I can, I want to raise money for these two wonderful organisations.

This page is dedicated to St Catherine’s Hospice.

My Dad was diagnosed as terminally ill early on, and due to the aggressive nature of his cancer, we knew he would inevitably need hospice care. When my Dad was first admitted to the hospice, I’m not ashamed to say I was terrified. The thought of visiting him there was something I really struggled with. But if my Dad could face it, then so could I—that became my mindset.

Driving up for that first visit, I felt completely intimidated. However, the experience could not have been further from what I had imagined. The hospice was modern, warm, bright, and welcoming. It felt comfortable and calm, and most importantly, it made us feel safe. Not just my Dad, but our whole family felt cared for and supported.

And then there are the staff. First and foremost, they are the ultimate professionals at what they do, but they also bring the most personal touch. Every single one of them felt like a God-sent angel, and they are truly what make this place so special.

They were compassionate, caring, humorous, and deeply empathetic. I honestly can’t put into words how incredible they were. The food was amazing, the care was unbelievable, and nothing was ever too much trouble.

They treated my Dad with dignity and respect at every stage, and they supported our family in ways we will never forget. At such a heartbreaking time, they made an unbearable situation just a little easier to cope with, and for that I will be forever grateful.

They don’t just provide medical care. They offer so much more than that. From outpatient clinics and specialist therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and lymphoedema treatment, to the emotional, practical, and spiritual support that families desperately need during the hardest of times.

They support patients and their loved ones through everything — from managing pain and symptoms, to offering comfort, understanding, and care long after loss, including bereavement support. Every step of the way, they are there, not just treating illness, but caring for people.

All donations raised will go directly towards supporting this incredible hospice and the vital work they do every single day. I may just be the one doing the running, but your donations are what will truly make the difference and help ensure other families receive the same care and support that meant so much to us.

Running felt like the perfect way to do this in my Dad’s memory. He was an elite runner, and taking on this challenge feels like a fitting nod to him carrying his strength, determination, and spirit with me every step of the way.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support you are able to give
