We brighten the lives of children who are living with serious or life-limiting illnesses, between the ages of 3-18, across the United Kingdom by granting their wish and supporting them in hospitals and hospices.

Story

When I first started running, I was just doing it aimlessly for myself with no real end goal or target. Shortly after signing up to the Great South Run, I saw that the John Terry Foundation was launched which in turn helped to raise money for Ray's of Sunshine. Since then, I have ran in a number of 10k and half marathon events for both the John Terry Foundation and Rays of Sunshine and have loved the fact that when running, I have had a purpose. During the races, when I have found it hard, I would merely think of the children and families that I would be helping and it's always helped to drive me towards the finish line. The reason in which I have wanted to run for such a wonderful charity is because it is very close to mine and my families hearts. Many will know yet many others won't that we sadly lost my sister Victoria to a brain tumour at the age of 6 years old. My parents had wanted to grant Victoria a magical wish but sadly, she became too unwell and therefore wasn't well enough to fulfill a wish before we lost her. This is a huge reason as to why I love the work that Ray's of Sunshine does for children and families.

I couldn't even begin to imagine what it is like to watch your child go through a terminal or serious illness. That is why I want to help wherever I can to create lasting, magical memories for families that they can cherish forever.

Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity exists to fulfil the wishes of children, between the ages of 3-18 in the UK, of any race or gender who are terminally or seriously ill. It also buys equipment for these children and supports the hospices, hospitals and specialist schools that care for them. The charity brightens the lives of these children and their families by granting wishes and providing ongoing support. Rays of Sunshine believes that every child deserves to experience happiness and put their illness on hold, even if it is just for one day. Their work provides a positive distraction, reduces isolation, improves self-esteem and creates precious memories and smiles.

I am asking for as much help and support from my family and friends to help me reach my marathon target of £2500.00.

Anything you can spare would be amazing and hugely appreciated. It costs around £2200 on average to grant a magical wish so knowing that I have helped at least one child would mean so much to me whilst taking part in such an amazing event.
