Hayley Meade is raising money for Tough Enough To Care
In memory of Joe Powell
Tough Enough To Care has been setup to raise awareness of mental health issues and to tackle the stigma surrounding it, head on in male dominated spaces. Our aim is to provide help and support to anyone affected by mental health issues. We support people, not labels 💙

Story

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of our wonderful son, brother and friend, Joe Powell, on 28th January 2025.

Joe’s loss has been utterly devastating for our family and has left a huge void in our lives that can never be made whole. It was obvious to everyone who knew Joe that he was genuinely loved by so many people. As well as being part of a close-knit family, Joe had dozens of friends and was an active part of many communities, including the local gaming and D&D community in Basingstoke but also more widely online.

Whilst Joe was gregarious and always very caring towards others, he did not openly share his own struggles and ongoing battle with his mental health. To help support other individuals and to prevent other families from experiencing the devastation of a loss to suicide, we are raising funds in Joe’s memory for the mental health charity ‘Tough Enough to Care’.

No contribution is too small, as every act of kindness will make a difference to the charity, including its local support group in Basingstoke. Whether you can spare a small amount or contribute more generously, please know that your support will be invaluable and deeply appreciated by both the charity and Joe’s family.

Tough Enough To Care is a charity dedicated to supporting men’s mental health by encouraging open conversations and challenging the stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

The charity provides a range of free support services, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to accessing help. These include weekly peer support groups, which offer a safe and non-judgemental space for men to support one another, as well as a free text support service for those in need of someone to talk to.
