Joe's Ironman for Laura's Light

Ironman Cascais · 18 October 2025
On October 18th, I’ll be tackling the Ironman Triathlon in Cascais: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle, and a full 42.2 km marathon—back-to-back. That’s 226 km (140.6 miles) in one go.
To put that distance into perspective: if I set off from London Liverpool Street, I could get past Sheffield heading north—or all the way to Bruges if I went southeast!
Since August 2024, I’ve been training around 12 hours a week. It’s been intense, exhausting, and life-changing. And as part of my build-up, I’ll also be taking on a Half Ironman (70.3) this May—a serious challenge in itself, and a key step toward the big day in October.
Barring any injuries, I’m hoping to complete the full Ironman in around 14 hours—a long day made even longer by the fact that no music or devices are allowed. Just me, the course, and my own thoughts.
I’m doing this in memory of my mum, who inspired the creation of Laura’s Light—a charity supporting mental health organisations across London and Essex.
A charity we created to honour her legacy and support mental health initiatives across London and Essex. So many friends and supporters have already stepped up to fundraise. Now, it’s my turn.
If you’re able to support, your donation—big or small—will help us continue this important work. Together, we can bring light to those struggling with their mental health, just as my mum always tried to do for others.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Joe
