Story

Great North Run 2025

This year is a bit of a personal one to me. I will be running the great north run for BEAT which is the UKs leading eating disorder charity. I suffered with Anorexia Nervosa and depression throughout all of my teenager years and into my early adult life. The photo below (left) was taken during my recovery so does not depict how I looked and felt at my lowest but is a stark reminder of how far I have come. The illness took everything away from me and put tremendous strain on my family who are absolutely amazing and fought incredibly hard to get me the help and treatment I desperately needed! Without that I know I wouldn’t be here today 💖

I feel I am in a privileged position to be able to say I fought my way to recovery which for many years seemed impossible, this will always be my biggest achievement in life and I’m extremely proud! The experiences I had as a child were pretty horrific but they now fuel me to do better, help others, and show that recovery from a mental health condition is possible! Any money I raise will go towards providing education and care to those suffering, as-well as providing support to those caring for someone with an eating disorder.

Any donations to my just giving page mean the absolute world to me. If you’re not in a position to donate, any encouragement during my training and on the day is just as valuable 🏃 Finally to anyone out there struggling with their mental health, there are better days ahead even if you can’t see them yet 🩵

‘These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder. They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, and up to one in four sufferers are male. Eating disorders cost the UK's economy £16.8 billion each year.’
