Joseph William Slatter was the most intelligent and funniest person in every room. He had a witty comment to make in every conversation and his eyes sparkled when he smiled. He loved everyone in his life fiercely, and I (Emily) was the luckiest person in the world to be his little sister.

Joe left us in 2021, and we all miss him so much. He overcame so many illnesses and long admissions to hospital until one day his heart simply couldn't support him any more.

Our muscles matter. We need them to move, pump blood around our bodies, breathe, talk and laugh.

By fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK, we're helping to fund world-class research into effective treatments, and life changing support for the 110,000 people in the UK living with a muscle-wasting condition.

My amazing friends (Will, Gina, James, Dan, Cameron, Elliot, Yaz, Jake, Georgia) and I will be taking part in the Yorkshire Tough Mudder on 26.07.26. When we came together as a team to talk about taking part this year (something we have wanted to do for a while), I raised doing this for a great cause (MDUK), and I was thrilled when they said they would love to do it in Joe's memory.

It means so much that they were on board to turn this challenge into an opportunity to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, who are striving to improve the lives and life expectancy of those with a muscle wasting condition, such as Duchenne like Joe.
