Story

Hello everyone,

Firstly, a huge thank you for visiting my page.

In April (2025), I'll be taking on the infamous Marathon Des Sables, also known as 'MDS'. Dubbed "the toughest footrace on earth", MDS involves running 250km (156 miles) over six days in the sweltering 40-50°C heat of the Sahara Desert.

As if running six marathons in one of the most inhospitable places on earth wasn't enough, the race is 'self-sufficient'. This means I'll be carrying a 10kg pack with all the required food, clothing and medical supplies, including an anti-venom pump, stove and sleeping bag.

Why on earth would you do this? I'm running to raise funds for Myeloma UK. As many of you know, it's been 20 years since my dad, Simbo, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that remains incurable.

In his early 40s with two young kids, I recall the doctors trying to allay our fears by telling us he *could* live for 5 years. Defying the odds, nearly 20 years later, he is still partying on. He has been nothing short of inspirational, and has shown me--and all those who love him--what extraordinary courage, resilience and positivity look like in the face of adversity.

His superhuman mindset has played a major role in his fight. But it is also thanks to the exceptional work of Myeloma UK and other charities, whose research has given him the tools to keep getting back in the ring.

Any donation you can make to support this wonderful charity is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Joel

P.S. You can find out more about Myeloma UK here. The trip will be 100% self-funded, so every penny of your donation will go directly to supporting Myeloma UK.
