Story
Hi everyone,
On the 2nd August 2025 we will be doing a skydive with GoSkyDive from 12,000 feet to fundraise for the charity wild futures; The monkey sanctuary – based in Looe, Cornwall - since 1964. Wild futures’ is a charity very close to our hearts, having visited multiple times and seen the incredible work they do- as a relatively small charity, they are always so grateful for any donation no matter how small. Their overall goal is to put a stop to the awful pet trade in the UK. Despite the considerable harm it causes, currently there are no laws in place to prevent people from owning monkeys as pets. Monkeys are wild animals that require certain habitats, they are sociable animals amongst their own species, and they need access to a specific diet. There are currently a minimum of 5,000 pet monkeys in the UK alone, all of which are being kept in situations that will lead to or directly cause severe malnutrition, poor emotional health and a plethora of physical health problems.
The sanctuary rescue and rehabilitate monkeys, the monkeys rescued will no longer be able to be released back into the wild, but the sanctuary offers them a safe space as similar to their natural habitats as possible- and the ability to interact with their own kind. The carers are all knowledgeable and incredibly dedicated to the ethos that the sanctuary puts across. Every single monkey has shown massive emotional improvement since being at the sanctuary, and all monkeys receive any necessary medical treatments such as spinal surgery, often needed as a result of being kept in a cage for years.
The following can help as a guide for where your donations can go:
£5: This can provide enrichment for a monkey
£10: This can provide a monkey with medication it requires
£20: This can provide a monkey with healthy food for a month
£100: This goes towards protecting wildlife in the UK
£500: This can allow wild futures to run a campaign against the pet trade
£1000: This can provide protection for existing wild monkey habitats
The sanctuary costs approx. £500,000 to run annually and as a non-governmental, not for profit organisation they can only do this if they make enough through donations and income from tickets and merchandise- which has been a struggle for them, especially since covid.
We fully understand that some of you reading this may not have much to spare, but we ask if you feel comfortable to give anything at all, you do, even if you do so anonymously :) If you would like to check out their website to read up more on what the charity do and stories of individual monkeys, follow this link https://www.monkeysanctuary.org/, you can also buy tickets to visit the sanctuary or look at their online shop if you would like to support them this way instead!
Many thanks from,
Joel and Cleo x
