Story

On 9th March 2025, I am going to run my 10th Cambridge Half Marathon in a row, fulfilling my long-term target, and then retiring from doing Halfs! In order to go out on a high, I am raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK. So many people are affected by dementia, and we have family experience of this cruel disease: My Aunt Jane died of non-vascular Alzheimer's in 2023 following 4 years of deterioration, eventually losing the ability to write, then walk and stand before going into full time care in 2020. Claire's Uncle Tom died of Alzheimer's last year, after years of worsening health, through memory loss and then physical impairments.

Both of these cherished people are greatly missed and their deterioration was cruel, and distressing to those around them. We need to act now to keep raising money especially as our population lives longer, leading to greater risk of dementia. Please donate what you can to honour those who have passed, help those who suffer now, and protect those who will suffer in the future. Your donation will also help me keep going round the 13 miles for one last time!

---------------------------------------

Dementia robs us of everything that matters. Our memories, our connections, our story. In 2023, it remained the UK’s biggest killer, claiming over 75,000 deaths. That’s more than one in ten of all deaths. Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is the only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia. As the UK's leading dementia research charity, ARUK scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia and your donation WILL help.
