The Challenge
"You're the only person crazy enough to walk 100km with me in 24hrs..." my friend said to me with a smile and, not one to ever pass up an opportunity, the training has begun for the South Coast Ultra Challenge with the South Downs calling for one hell of a hike on 6-7th September!
It's going to be tough adventure with literal and mental ups and downs along the way but there's an important reason I'm doing this, and not just to accompany my equally insane friend - I will be doing this to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me - The Flying Seagull Project.
Who are the Flying Seagulls?
The Flying Seagulls believe that everybody has the right to laugh and to have a happy life, no matter what financial, physical, emotional or social situation they find themselves in, and that every child should be able to play freely, because laughter, play and creativity are essential to a child’s development. As a result, they travel the world going to places where there are children and communities who are facing hardship and crisis and they try to bring them a little joy to take them away from reality for a little bit. Afterall, a happy and playful childhood should not be a luxury for only some. It should be something that everyone gets to experience.
I have witnessed first hand what the Flying Seagulls do many times and they are truly special people and I really believe that the work they do makes a difference to the lives of so many children and their families.
