Story

10 years on…

In 2027, I will mark 10 years since my life changed forever.

I sustained my spinal cord injury just one day before giving birth to my daughter. Ten years later, I’m still learning, adapting and discovering what life can look like from a wheelchair — and I thank God for giving me strength each day.

One of the biggest parts of that journey has been the Matt Hampson Foundation.

I became a beneficiary in 2021, and since then the Foundation has been a constant source of support, encouragement and challenge. Through physiotherapy, specialist training, advice and, perhaps most importantly, a community of people who understand life after serious injury, they have helped me to keep moving forward.

The Foundation’s motto is “Get Busy Living” - a reminder that life can still be amazing after a life-changing injury. It’s something I’ve come to understand more and more over the last ten years.

So, what better way to mark ten years than by taking on a challenge that, ten years ago, I never could have imagined?

In April 2027, I’ll be pushing 26.2 miles around London in the TCS London Marathon for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

It’s going to be tough. Really tough. But the Foundation has taught me that being challenged is a good thing, and that there is always a reason to keep pushing forward.

I’m incredibly honoured to be doing this for an organisation that has given me so much. I want to help them continue to support people facing the same kind of life-changing circumstances I have experienced — not just in those first few months, but for years to come.

If you’re able to sponsor me, I would be so grateful. Every donation will help the Foundation continue giving people the opportunity to Get Busy Living.

Ten years on, I’m ready to push a little further. 🤍

Thank you for supporting me!

The Get Busy Living Centre provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, support, mentoring and advice to people suffering a life-changing injury through sport. It's a unique facility which opened its doors in 2018 and is the brainchild of founder and former England and Leicester Tigers rugby player Matt Hampson, who himself experienced a life-changing injury in 2005 leaving him paralysed from the neck down, aged just 20.

Building a sense of community is central to the Matt Hampson Foundation. As part of this community, beneficiaries are able to draw on the experience and knowledge of others who have been on a similar journey as they develop the tools and skills they need to ‘get busy living’ again - a key motto of the foundation!
