Story
About John and Mick
Mick has spent 27 years in the fire service, which is a lot of time running into burning buildings—so you’d think a half marathon would be a walk in the park, right? Well, not quite. As a Station Manager, he’s used to handling emergencies, but running 13.1 miles might just be his biggest one yet!
For 19 years, Mick was part of a technical rescue unit, saving animals from all sorts of sticky situations. So naturally, supporting a charity that helps his fellow firefighters is something he’s passionate about. Enter John, Mick's lifelong best friend who’s been running for four years now—basically, he’s a seasoned pro.
Now, John and Mick have decided to tackle the Amazing Northampton Run—a half marathon—to raise funds for this cause. For John, it’s another day at the office. For Mick, let’s just say his training plan involves more last-minute prayers than practice runs. Having registered for the race at the eleventh hour, Mick doesn’t have much time to prepare. So, wish him luck—he’s going to need it!
About The Fire Fighter Charity
The Fire Fighters Charity is there for every member of the UK’s fire service community, helping them all to live healthier and happier throughout their lives.
And it’s not just about firefighters. The Charity supports past and present fire and rescue service personnel, whatever their role, as well as spouses, families and many other eligible individuals across a diverse community of around 300,000 people.
Our fire and rescue services are always there for us when we need them, helping us at the lowest and most terrifying moments of our lives. To do that, they need to be physically and mentally well, at work and at home.
The Charity’s role is therefore to ensure that it’s there for them, for life, working as their health and wellbeing companion, supporting every aspect of their lives to ensure that they can be there for you when you need them.
The Charity offers a range of services to help the whole fire family look after their wellbeing – from expert support and advice over the phone, online or in-person, to support groups for retirees, a Wellbeing Hub full of online resources and much more.
However, it couldn’t provide any of this life-changing support without your help, so please donate what you can now to make a huge difference to the UK’s fire family. Visit www.firefighterscharity.org.uk to find out more.
