Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge · 30 June 2024

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

Julie’s Story

In February 2023, my wife Julie discovered a small lump in her breast. She was subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer and during the course of 2023 has had to undergo chemotherapy, a masectomy and radiotherapy.

Unfortunately Julie had various complications during the course of her treatment which resulted in three separate admissions to hospital and delayed her recovery. A particularly serious post operative infection has resulted in regular visits to the Breast Cancer Unit which are still continuing.

During the whole of this period, the treatment that Julie has received at Addenbrookes has been exemplary. The doctors, nurses and support staff in oncology, chemotherapy and radiology departments have all been marvellous but it is the Breast Cancer Unit that Julie and I would particularly like to support.

By way of recognising the challenges which Julie has had to overcome, I have decided to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge (24.5miles and 5,000ft of elevation to be completed in under 12 hours) in order to raise money for this worthy cause.

Julie and I have had great support throughout from our friends and family. My nephew Matt will be joining me on the challenge. His wife Ruth and their 3 children Cooper, Coco and Cassidy will be helping us to raise as much money as we can. (View gallery to see their picture.) Any donations which you are able to make would be much appreciated. We have set ourselves quite a high target but with your help, we are confident that we can reach and hopefully exceed it.

Note : Pat Nixon who is the Lady Captain of Ely City Golf Club where Julie and I are both members has chosen The Breast Unit at Addenbrookes as her Captain’s Charity. We are working jointly to try and raise as much money as possible for this cause and are hoping that between us, we can reach a total of £10,000.
