Story
John was diagnosed with bowel cancer in Feb 2025 having already beaten skin cancer the previous year.
He underwent a 9 hour operation in March 2025 and was in hospital for 10 days.
During this time in hospital, he became very ill and lost 3 stones (19 kg) in weight and could barely eat or drink.
24 lymph nodes were removed during the op and sent to the lab for testing. The results came back and confirmed no spread. A PET scan also revealed no cancer anywhere else in his body.
A stoma (a surgically created opening, usually on the front of the abdomen, that connects an internal organ like the gut to the skin's surface) was created to collect the body's waste into a bag next to John's belly button. He had a stoma for 7 months before a stoma reversal in Oct 2025.
So, John has beat this awful disease that claims almost 17,000 lives in the UK each year and is the second deadliest cancer.
Now, together with his son Archie and friends James Rob and Chris, he is raising money for the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity.
A 100km (62 miles) continuous walk is planned. This is a tough challenge ... and no sleep until we've completed our mission!!
Bowel Cancer UK fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
We’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
Thank you so much for donating to this fantastic cause.
