Story
On Sunday 19th May I will be swapping my organ shoes for running shoes and heading for Bristol to run my first ever half marathon! As a child I didn’t understand sport – except for knowing that I couldn’t do it – and at school I conveniently arranged my violin lessons to avoid PE as often as possible. Running for fun (as opposed to in order not to miss a train) is something it took me until my fifties to discover, and embarking on a half marathon feels like QUITE a big step. But I’m excited to be doing it, and comforted by the thought that there are no wrong notes in running!
I will be running for Joy of Learning, an amazing charity established by my daughter Emily to support the ongoing education of children in Uganda who were previously cared for at Sanyu Babies’ Home in Kampala. If you don’t know about their work already, do head over to the website to see what it’s all about, and if you could make a donation of course I’d be delighted.
(In case anyone’s wondering, I’m not setting my sights on a ‘good time’, but if I can stagger round and be home in time to play the organ for Evensong at 6pm that will be just fine!)
