“It’s just 8 1/2 parkruns back to back”!!!
Well, that’s what I’m telling myself…….
Earlier this year having perhaps been inspired by TV coverage and then some friendly family “banter”, I entered the ballot for the TCS London Marathon 2027 along with around 1.34 million other hopefuls and in early July 2026 I got the good news that I had been successful in securing a place on the starting line for the Sunday event.
Of course the reality check after the initial euphoria dissipated is that there is a very big difference in switching up from a casual 5k parkrun to a full blown 26.2 mile marathon, but I’m I firm believer in seeing things through and I’m up for the challenge.
So, on the 25th April 2027 just a few weeks after my 60th birthday, I’ll be lining up on the start line in Greenwich about set off on my first ever marathon and although it may sound “corny”, I’ll be approaching it “one step at time”
Along the way I’ll be aiming to raise awareness and support for parkrun.
