On Sunday 12 May 2024, I (John Mark Govan) will be cycling the 60 mile Mezzo Fondo (middle distance) https://velobelvoir.com/routes/mezzo ride around Leicestershire, taking in Belvoir Castle along the way. I’ll be cycling on behalf of Dove Cottage Day Hospice https://www.dovecottage.org. Dove Cottage offer care and support for local families living with life-limiting illnesses.

My wife said I could have a racing bike for my 50th birthday and 7 years later, I finally bought my new Ribble racing bike! I’m no Chris Froome or Geraint Thomas, but over the last 6 months or so, I’ve managed to notch up over 1500 miles on the Ribble.

I was made redundant in 2012 and felt pretty low in the water, my brother-in-law, Stuart Yates was also diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in that year. This gave me an incredible sense of perspective – no more feeling sorry for myself ever again!

I’d like to raise over £1,500 and am hoping to do the ride in 4 hours.

I’ll keep you posted on how I get on and hope you can sponsor me for this very worthwhile cause, thank you very much.
