Story
On Sunday October 19th, I'm running my 25th marathon in Amsterdam. I said this would be my last full marathon - famous last words as I'm already signed up for Brighton 2026!
For the marathons in Amsterdam and Brighton, I am fundraising for a fantastic local charity called Tapestry Day Club.
Tapestry Day Club supports people with early-stage dementia in Sussex and Surrey. Through a network of amazing hosts, the charity provides Day Clubs in the own the home of the host. Through Day Clubs, the charity focuses on reducing isolation, rebuilding confidence and creating a safe, supportive community for its guests. At the same time, the community provides much needed respite for carers and their families.
As many of you will know, fundraising for dementia related charities has been a passion of mine for many years. This is an issue close to my heart. Not just through the loss of my own mother Joyce to dementia related illness in 2015. My mother-in-law Val has been living with dementia for the last five years and is regular guest at the Tapestry Day Club. The community provides an important lifeline for her each week.
Recognising that eating in company helps with appetite and social skills, guests at the Day Club enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal. The host also organises various activities - all designed to stimulate cognitive function and the emotional well-being of the guests. For Val, the two days that she spends at 'lunch club' have become the weekly highlight. At the same time, we can take comfort knowing that she has eaten - a major concern for any family caring for a loved one with dementia.
If you want to find out more about the Tapestry Day Club community, I've attached a link to their website:

Any donation that you can make to Tapestry Day Club will be really appreciated. All funds raised will help support the growth and objectives of the charity - providing the hosts with funds to support Day Club food and activity costs and also enable more people of lower income to join the community.
Thanks folks - John X
