Story
A group of 26 Sunderland AFC staff members will take on the 2025 Great North Run in memory of their much-loved former colleague and coach, Carlton Fairweather, who sadly passed away earlier this year following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
The team will run the iconic 13.1-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday 7 September 2025, united in their goal to raise vital funds in Carlton’s name.
All proceeds will be split between two charities close to the club’s heart. The majority of the fundraising will support St Benedict’s Hospice, in gratitude for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Carlton and his family during his illness. In addition, as 12 of the runners secured their race entries through the Meningitis Trust, the group will also be raising funds for that cause.
This special tribute is a way for Sunderland AFC staff to honour Carlton’s legacy and continue the values he championed within the club.
