Story

Homelessness isn't anything new, and the Saffron Walden almshouses have been providing low cost high quality, safe accommodation for literally centuries, and the need they serve is just as relevant today as it was 600 year ago when the almshouses were first originated

The almshouses are looking to develop some of their existing buildings which have some issues into better, more modern, and more dwellings. To do this they need funds, and I'm trying to help by fund raising here.

I've never run a marathon before, and when better than the age of 53 and carrying maybe 10kg more than I should be? With a little over a month to go the training is pretty shoddy too - but I'm going to get it done, and I hope you can see your way to supporting me figuratively, and the almshouses literally in my quest to cross the finish line in under 5 hours.

About the charity

We manage 40 homes in Saffron Walden. Applicants must be on a low income, with limited savings, and resident in, or have strong connections to, the town. In many ways, the Almshouses provide a safety net for those who don’t qualify for social housing or wouldn’t be prioritised for urgent assistance.
